Some of the finest institutions of higher learning in the United States are historically African-American universities. The universities on this tour are located in Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. Many black high school students want their college education to focus on their heritage. So, they intentionally select a university with this type of history.

Historically African-American colleges serve a diverse community of all races. They incorporate the same founding principles as other universities and produce excellent citizens, scholars, and professionals. Though Howard and Hampton Universities are some of the more well-known schools, Norfolk State, Virginia Union, and Bowie State are worth a look. All of the universities on this tour excel in different academic and/or sports programs and provide new college students an environment where they can perform and succeed.
